Mother Road 100 -- November 11-12, 2006

ultraRUNNING Magazine Cover, photo by Don Charles Lundell What a great time we had at the Mother Road 100. We flew to Oklahoma on Thursday, spent the evening and all day Friday hanging out, working on ZombieRunner stuff, eating Freddy's Steakburgers & frozen custard, and organizing our drop bags. The forecast for Saturday was for good weather, and we weren't planning to push for time, so I decided to carry an SLR instead of the usual smaller 100 miler camera (I'd tried it for a couple of somewhat shorter days at Coyote Four Play earlier in the year). It worked pretty well, but I need to do some work on the case's straps to get a less bouncy fit. I carried the camera for the first half of the run, then dropped it at an aid station so I could run camera-free at night.

The run was hard, literally, with the entire thing on asphalt and concrete. But, like all 100 milers, it was very satisfying. It took a couple of days soreness to diminish enough to realize just how fortunate we were to have taken part in this one-time event.
